Nonevolutionary MHD shocks in the solar wind and interstellar medium interaction

چکیده
We present the study of the solar wind interaction with the super-Alfvénic magnetized interstellar medium in the controversial case when fast magnetosonic shocks are nonevolutionary, while admissible switch-on shocks cannot exist due to geometrical reasons. The flow behaviour and the accompanying shock configuration are investigated both in the twodimensional axisymmetric and 2.5-dimensional, that is, permitting rotation around the symmetry axis, statements. General questions of the origin of nonevolutionary MHD shocks are discussed.

The Limits of Our Solar System
The heliosphere is the bubble the Sun carves out of the interstellar medium. The solar wind moves outward at supersonic speeds and carries with it the Sun’s magnetic field. The interstellar medium is also moving at supersonic speeds and carries with it the interstellar magnetic field. The boundary between the solar wind and the interstellar medium is called the heliopause. Before these plasmas ...
متن کاملSolar wind interaction with the magnetized interstellar medium Shock - capturing modeling
The interaction between the stellar wind, including the solar wind, and the interstellar medium is the subject of thorough investigation in the latest years. This is due to the possibility of comparison of the physical models for such interaction with the measurements performed by Voyager, Pioneer, and Ulysses spacecrafts. The presence of the magnetic field necessitates the solution of the magn...
متن کاملHeating of the Solar Wind Beyond 1 AUby
The deposition of energy into the solar wind beyond 1 AU is thought to result from the dissipation of low frequency magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) turbulence via kinetic processes at spatial scales comparable to the ion gyroradius. Beyond 1 AU, solar wind turbulence is comprised of both a decaying component generated in the corona and turbulence generated dynamically in situ by processes such as str...
متن کاملReduced Models of Magnetohydrodynamic Turbulence in the Interstellar Medium and the Solar Wind
Recent developments in the derivation of reduced models for weakly compressible magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) turbulence are discussed. A four-field system of equations has been derived from the compressible magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) equations to describe turbulence in the interstellar medium and the solar wind. These equations apply to a plasma permeated by a spatially varying mean magnetic field ...
متن کاملModels of the Solar Wind Interaction with Local Interstellar Cloud
This paper reviews the theoretical approaches and existing models of the solar wind interaction with the Local Interstellar Cloud (LIC). Models discussed take into account the multi-component nature of the solar wind and local interstellar medium. Basic results of the modeling and their possible applications to interpretation of space experiments are summarized. Open questions of global modelin...
